Reason for this Blog

The reason I decided to write this blog was because when I went looking, I couldn't find much information for people who were just exploring and getting used to the idea of a non traditional education for their kids. There was plenty out there for people with kids already in Montessori schools, plenty for teachers and homeschoolers, but not that much basic information for someone trying to decide if this was the right way to go for their family. Nothing on what kind of impact a school like this would have on daily life, schedules and budgets!

This is probably not a blog for people who are already sold on Montessori. It is for people just like me who went searching and couldn't find something for people like them.  I will include our daily trials and tribulations of dealing with a new school, a non-traditional school and all that brings with it. I will probably talk about the sacrifices we are making as a family to make this happen and about the various challenges we will run into with an hour commute each way, a big tuition bill and having to explain the school and the way it works to friends and family.  I will include as much as I can about the basics of the Montessori method and how it impacts my child and us as a family. 

I will try to include useful information as well as the practical, real world information you might need. One thing I have found is that schools in general, teachers, other parents with kids in school sometimes forget that for some of us, this is a brand new experience. I don't automatically know that my kids extra clothes go in the cubby or that he has papers in a  folder in some corner of the room. The entire "SCHOOL" experience is one I have never been exposed to as someone with a mere 3 years experience as a parent. I don't know all the rules, written or unwritten. Sometimes I wish someone would tell me instead of assuming that I must already know that it is frowned upon for my son to bring 15 cars and 3 stuffed animals into the classroom. Hey- I am just trying to get him into the room!
